Russia has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council demanding an international investigation into the United States’ “military-biological activities” in Ukraine, the Russian foreign ministry said Thursday. “The Russian Federation was left with no choice but to file a complaint with the Chairman of the UN Security Council to launch an international investigation” into “the military-biological activities of the United States in Ukraine,” according to a ministry statement. The complaint was filed with a draft resolution to the Security Council, it said. EU strikes deal to ban combustion-engine cars by 2035

EU countries and lawmakers on Thursday struck an agreement on legislation to phase out new CO2-emitting vehicles by 2035, negotiators announced. “We have just finished the negotiations on CO2 levels for cars,” tweeted French MEP Pascal Canfin, who heads the European parliament’s environment commission. “Historic EU decision for the climate which definitively confirms the target of 100 percent zero emission vehicles in 2035 with intermediary phases between 2025 and 2030.” A spokesperson for the Czech presidency of the EU Council also tweeted “We have an agreement.” The talks, between representatives of the European Council fronting for the 27 EU countries and the European Parliament got underway Thursday and had been set to continue until agreement was reached. Elon Musk, who once tweeted “I hate advertising”, said he wants Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) to be “the most respected advertising platform”, in a bid to gain the trust of ad buyers ahead of the expected close of his $44 billion deal for the social media firm. FIA issues statement on Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain’s arrest

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a statement on the arrest of ARY News anchor Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, ARY News reported on Thursday. In a statement, the FIA stated the anchor was declared “wanted” in case number 94/2011 by FIA’s Commercial Banking Circle. The statement further said that Ghulam had taken a loan worth over Rs50 million from a bank on fake documents in 2003, adding that two of his sons were also involved in the case. The FIA said that a banking court in Lahore have issued a non-bailable warrant for Hussain in the case. “Further investigations are underway,” it added. LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab has registered a case against Inspector General (IG) Islamabad police Akbar Nasir Khan, ARY News reported on Wednesday. According to ACE spokesperson, the IG Islamabad police Akbar Nasir Khan was facing corruption allegations. The spokesperson added that the ACE summoned the Islamabad police chief twice but he did not appear before the investigators. Nasir Akbar Khan was accused of tampering with documents for awarding a contract, said the spokesperson, adding that the IG Islamabad will be immediately arrested after entering Punjab. NASA instrument detects dozens of methane super-emitters from space

An orbital NASA instrument designed mainly to advance studies of airborne dust and its effects on climate change has proven adept at another key Earth science function – detecting large, worldwide emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The device, called an imaging spectrometer, has identified more than 50 methane “super-emitters” in Central Asia, the Middle East and the Southwestern United States since it was installed in July aboard the International Space Station, NASA said on Tuesday. The newly measured methane hotspots – some previously known and others just discovered – include sprawling oil and gas facilities and large landfills. The spectrometer was built primarily to identify the mineral composition of dust blown into the atmosphere from Earth’s deserts and other arid regions by measuring the wavelengths of light reflected from the surface soil in those areas.
