Batters-led Dubai Capitals thump Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20

DUBAI: Sam Billings scored a quickfire half-century in the run chase and powered Dubai Capitals to a comfortable five-wicket victory over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the eighth match of the ILT20 here on Thursday.

Put into bat first, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders could put up 183/4 on the board despite Sam Hain and Laurie Evans’s brisk half-centuries.

The Knight Riders got off to a shaky start to their innings as they lost Andries Gous and Michael Pepper in the second over with just 111 runs on the board.

Walking out to bat at number four, Hain then put together a brief 37-run partnership with Alishan Sharafu, who fell in the sixth over after scoring an 18-ball 15.

Hain then joined forces with Evans and the pair launched an astounding recovery for the Knight Riders.

They dominated the second half of the innings and added 131 runs to the total before Hain finally walked back in the final over.

Hain smashed eight boundaries and two sixes on his way to top score for the Knight Riders with a 39-ball 77.

Evans, on the other hand, carried his bat all the way through with an unbeaten 67. His 41-ball knock featured six boundaries and two sixes.

Dushmantha Chameera led the bowling attack for the Capitals with two wickets while Jason Holder and Roelof van der Merwe made one scalp each.

In return, the Capitals chased down the 184-run target for the loss of five wickets and 23 balls to spare.

The Capitals had a contrasting start as they lost David Warner (0) on the second delivery of the innings.

But Jake Fraser-McGurk, alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz, anchored the run chase.

The pair put together a quickfire 57-run stand before both perished in successive overs, bringing down the Capitals to 65/3 in 4.4 overs.

Fraser-McGurk smashed three boundaries and four sixes in his 17-ball knock and scored 41. Gurbaz was also ruthless with his seven-ball 21 which included one boundary and two sixes.

Sam Billings and Sikandar Raza then knitted a match-winning partnership and put the Capitals in touching distance.

The duo added 109 runs for the fourth wicket before they too, fell in consecutive overs.

Billings remained the top scorer for the Capitals with 67. His 35-ball knock featured nine boundaries and a six. Raza, on the other hand, scored a brisk 29-ball 43 and hit five boundaries.

Sunil Narine and David Willey bagged two wickets each for the Knight Riders while Andre Russell had a wicket to his name.

The five-wicket victory lifted Dubai Capitals to the second in the ILT20 standings with four points in three matches while Abu Dhabi Knight Riders remained at the bottom with two points in as many matches.
