Pakistan hold Malaysia to reach semi-finals of Paris Olympic Qualifiers

MUSCAT: Pakistan Men’s Hockey Team on Thursday, qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing Paris Olympics Qualifiers after holding Malaysia for a 3-3 stalemate in their last pool match.

The national team made it to the knockout stage for maintaining a superior goal average than China.

Notably, China succumbed to a 6-0 thrashing against Great Britain earlier today, which meant that Pakistan only had to avoid the defeat against Malaysia.

Khan Sufyan, Ammad Butt, and Rana Waheed scored for Pakistan in the 3-3 stalemate while Sasri Fitri, Abu Kamal, and Ashari Farhan netted for Malaysia.

Pakistan will now take on Germany in the semi-final of the Paris Olympics Qualifiers on January 20 while Great Britain will take on New Zealand in the other semi-final.

The Green Shirts are now just one victory away from securing their place at the global event.

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan had an unwanted start to their campaign as they suffered a 6-1 defeat from Great Britain.

However, the side soon regrouped and staged a sensational comeback in their second fixture as they outclassed China by the scoreline of 2-0.

Pakistan and China both played defensively in the first half, not allowing any goal, however, the Green Shirts created some brilliant chances in the third quarter.

Their initial advances were denied before Abu Bakr gave Pakistan the advantage in the 42nd minute with a penalty corner.

Pakistan’s lead was further extended nine minutes later, thanks to Abdul Rahman, who scored his first international goal on a penalty corner.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s hockey team lost their first game in the Paris Olympics Qualifiers against England 6-1 yesterday.

Abdul Hanan Shahid scored Pakistan’s only goal in the match, as the England team showed brilliant quality, scoring six goals.

Pakistan will next face Malaysia tomorrow in the must-win contest to qualify for the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics Qualifiers.

Texas shooting claims five lives, armed suspect on the loose

 A man shot dead five neighbors including an 8-year-old boy after some of them had asked him to stop shooting a semiautomatic rifle in his front yard in Cleveland, Texas, because it was keeping their baby awake, police said on Saturday. DSP, gunman martyred in Lakki Marwat attack

LAKKI MARWAT: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Gul Muhammad Khan and his gunman were martyred in an attack in Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Friday night.
